Eston: A 61-year-old grandmother named Carol Carne had a terrifying experience when she fell into a freezing sinkhole while walking her three cockapoos. It all happened on December 27 at Eston Recreation Ground.

Carol was just trying to help her dog Ruby, who had fallen into what looked like a big puddle. But when she rushed over, the ground gave way beneath her, and she plunged into the icy water.

She was completely submerged and had to fight to keep both herself and Ruby afloat. Thankfully, three strangers heard her screams and rushed to help. Carol believes that without their quick action, she might not have made it out alive.

After the incident, Carol expressed her gratitude to the two women who helped her and is still trying to find the man who joined in the rescue. She emphasized the need for better safety measures around the area, as there were no barriers before her fall.

The local council has since put up barriers and increased security around the sinkhole, but Carol feels they should have acted faster. She’s been warning others to keep their kids and pets away from the water, sharing how lucky she felt to have had help during such a scary moment.
