A Grantham couple turned their wedding into a charity event, raising over £2,000 for Lincolnshire Fire Aid through generous donations.
Grantham: So, there’s this lovely couple, Wyonnie and David Hardy, who decided to do something really special for their wedding. Instead of asking for gifts, they asked their guests to donate to charity. How cool is that?
They tied the knot at Grantham Registry Office back in June. Their guests were super generous, and together they raised over £2,000 for Lincolnshire Fire Aid. They even held a raffle and auctioned off some wedding gifts to boost the funds.
Recently, they presented the cheque at an event at Grantham Railway Club, where they also celebrated their wedding reception. Wyonnie, who’s 55, and David, 63, were just overwhelmed by the support they received.
What’s even more touching is that this fundraising effort honored Dawn Eldred, a beloved member of the community who passed away in 2021 after a tough battle with cancer. She was deeply involved with Lincolnshire Fire Aid, and her husband, Mick, expressed his gratitude to the couple, saying Dawn would be so proud.
Wyonnie and David met five years ago on a dating site. It wasn’t all smooth sailing at first, but they quickly found their groove. Wyonnie even moved from Tamworth to Grantham to be with David.
Their wedding was a real community affair, filled with family, friends, and a delicious English and Jamaican fusion buffet that Wyonnie prepared. They even enjoyed a four-week honeymoon in Montego Bay, Jamaica, with Wyonnie’s family.
Now that they’re both retired, they’re loving life and traveling. Wyonnie has also joined the committee at Grantham Railway Club, so they’re keeping busy and making the most of their time together.
