Brixton: It’s been a tough start to the year for many. A grieving mother, Pastor Lorraine Jones, found a blood-filled syringe at a crime scene today. It really hit her hard.

This all happened after a 17-year-old was stabbed early in the morning. Lorraine, who lost her son Dwayne to knife crime back in 2014, said seeing the syringe was just too much. She described it as ‘triggering’ and couldn’t believe it was happening again.

She shared her shock with MyLondon, saying, “How can this be a happy new year?” It’s heartbreaking to think about parents walking by, trying to shield their kids from such a sight.

The police explained that it was a busy crime scene and that leaving items behind was a “genuine mistake.” They said they do their best, but it’s clear this incident caused a lot of distress.

Simon Harding from the London Ambulance Service mentioned they’re dealing with a really busy time and are focused on the most serious cases. He assured that they’re working closely with the police to learn from this situation.

For Lorraine, it brought back painful memories of her son’s death. She said, “It’s unacceptable,” and expressed how traumatic it was to see blood left on the street. It’s a tough reminder of her loss, and she wishes things were different.

It’s a sad reality that these incidents keep happening, and it’s hard to see how little has changed over the years.
