Gritters in the Peak District were halted by 200 double-parked cars, causing major disruptions in icy conditions
Derbyshire: So, there was quite a scene in the Peak District recently. Gritters just couldn’t get through because about 200 cars were double parked. It was a real mess!
The council mentioned that their crews were stuck on Rushup Edge and Man Nick, which leads down to Edale. It’s a popular spot, especially for hikers wanting to see the stunning views.
They even posted on X, showing pictures of the blocked road. They urged folks to move their cars, saying if the gritters couldn’t get through, neither could emergency vehicles like buses or fire engines.
With all the ice and snow lately, it’s no wonder tourists flocked to Derbyshire to enjoy the winter wonderland. Gritters are super important for keeping the roads safe during these chilly times.
This incident happened after the UK had its coldest January night in 15 years. Altnaharra hit a freezing minus 18.7C, which is pretty wild!
And it looks like the cold isn’t going anywhere just yet. The Met Office warned that temperatures would drop again, especially in the eastern parts of the UK.
But don’t worry too much; they said it might warm up a bit by Sunday and Monday. Just a little, though! It’s been a long cold spell, and it’s been getting colder each night.
