Halifax Road is set to partially reopen by January 13 after a month of repairs
Halifax: So, the big news is that Halifax Road is finally getting ready to reopen! After being closed for nearly a month due to a culvert collapse and sewer damage, it’s about time, right?
The A646 has been a mess since December 13, causing all sorts of traffic headaches for folks trying to get between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. It’s been a real hassle for everyone in the area.
Traffic has been rerouted through Littleborough, which isn’t ideal. But hey, at least there are signs in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge letting people know that local shops are still open for business.
Now, the weather hasn’t been on their side either. Heavy rain has slowed down the repair work, but Yorkshire Water is optimistic about reopening one side of the road by Monday, January 13.
A spokesperson mentioned that they found some unexpected issues while fixing the culvert and sewer, which made things trickier. They’re keeping in touch with residents and businesses to keep everyone in the loop.
They’re aiming to have one lane open with traffic lights, and a shuttle bus will still be running until everything is back to normal. It’s been a bit of a pain for residents, but they’re grateful for everyone’s patience.
Commuters are being advised to plan their routes ahead of time to avoid any more headaches. Calderdale Council is also urging people to stick to the signed detours to keep the local roads from getting too congested.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time this area has had issues. It’s been nicknamed “the Charlestown Hole” and made headlines way back in 1972. Let’s hope this time it gets sorted out without any more drama!
