A headteacher has been banned from teaching after serious misconduct during a school ski trip in Switzerland involving pupils’ inappropriate actions
Nottingham: A headteacher is in hot water after a ski trip went completely off the rails. Justine Drury, who was the principal at CP Riverside School, has been banned from teaching.
During the 2017 trip to Switzerland, things got out of hand. Reports say students were caught stealing, drinking, and even engaging in sexual activities. It’s wild to think this happened on a school trip.
One student allegedly had sex with others, including being blackmailed into it. Can you believe that? Another student was found with a stolen knife. It’s just shocking.
Drury claimed she thought all the necessary permissions were in place, but the panel found she didn’t do enough to keep the kids safe. They were supposed to be supervised, but it sounds like there was a serious lack of oversight.
When the police got involved, it was clear that the situation was serious. The panel said any reasonable person would see how unacceptable the behavior was. They felt Drury’s actions could really damage the reputation of the teaching profession.
She didn’t even show up for the hearing and denied all the allegations. Now, she’s banned from teaching in any school in England indefinitely, but she can appeal in five years.
The school and the East Midlands Education Trust said they took the allegations seriously and worked with the police during the investigation. They want to reassure parents that they prioritize student safety.
