Henrico: A nurse in Virginia has been charged after some premature babies in her care ended up with mysterious fractures. It’s a pretty shocking situation, and it seems like there might be more to it.

Erin Strotman, just 26 and from Chesterfield County, was working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. She’s facing serious charges like malicious wounding and felony child abuse.

This all came to light after a year-long investigation revealed that several infants had similar unexplained fractures. The police are now looking into multiple cases from 2023 and 2024, suggesting that at least seven babies might have been harmed.

Strotman became a registered nurse in May 2019, but it’s unclear when she started working at the hospital. Families of some of the affected babies were at her arraignment, and one father, Dominique Hackey, shared his heartbreak over his twin boys’ struggles in the NICU.

Hackey’s son, Noah, had been recovering well until he was told he had a fractured leg. It was actually Hackey’s mother, a former NICU nurse, who raised the alarm, leading to the investigation after she reported the incident to Child Protective Services.

Hackey expressed his confusion and pain, saying, “How am I supposed to feel?” Investigators have been reviewing hours of video footage from the NICU, trying to piece together what happened.

Recently, Hackey learned that his son was one of four babies injured, and he was devastated to find out that another child had suffered 12 fractures. He couldn’t believe it and was left in tears.

Strotman is currently in jail without bond, and her next court date is set for March 24. The police are still investigating, and they’re asking anyone with information to come forward.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital expressed their shock and sadness over the situation, emphasizing their commitment to patient care and support for their staff during this tough time.
