A Herne Bay retiree is upset after not receiving any mail for a month, fearing missed appointments and unthanked gifts
Herne Bay: A local pensioner is really upset because he hasn’t gotten any mail for a whole month. Roger White, 77, is worried he might have missed important doctor’s appointments.
He’s lived in his flat for 23 years and says he’s never seen anything like this before. The last time he got a letter or card was two weeks before Christmas, which is just crazy.
Roger mentioned that his son and friends have been asking why he hasn’t thanked them for their Christmas cards, especially since there’s money in them. He’s like, “I can’t thank you if I haven’t received anything!”
He’s also waiting for a letter about a back problem he has, and he thinks some of his neighbors are in the same boat. It’s not just him feeling the pinch.
Roger is really angry. He said, “We haven’t even had junk mail. Nothing at all!” He’s called Royal Mail several times to complain, but they haven’t given him a clear answer on when things will get back to normal.
Interestingly, he noted that parcel deliveries are still happening in the street, which makes it even more frustrating. He called the head office, and they just apologized, saying it would be sorted out soon. But that was before Christmas, and nothing has changed.
Now that the holidays are over, he’s wondering why the mail service hasn’t returned to normal. “Where’s it going? Some black hole? I just want my post!” he exclaimed.
To make matters worse, the price of a first-class stamp went up by 30p to £1.65 in October, which feels like a slap in the face when the service is so poor.
Roger is at his wit’s end and plans to visit the Canterbury sorting office in person if this doesn’t get resolved soon. He’s never experienced anything like this in all his years living there.
He’s just fed up with the whole situation. Royal Mail did address some complaints about delays around Christmas, saying they were working to clear the backlog. But Roger’s experience seems to be falling through the cracks.
One of his neighbors echoed his frustration, saying, “They raise the price of stamps, and we get a worse service!”
Royal Mail responded to Roger’s claims, saying they don’t recognize his situation and that not everyone gets mail every day. They assured that they’re working on improving the service and managing delays.
