A hiker was airlifted to safety after being reported overdue in Wester Ross, thanks to the quick response of rescue teams and technology.
The walker had been reported overdue in the Creag a Chaorainn area near Achnashellach. Using some nifty mobile phone location tech, the rescue team tracked them down and got them airlifted to safety, just in time to avoid the worst of the wintry weather.
A spokesperson from Kintail Mountain Rescue shared that twelve team members were ready to go. They used Sarloc Rescue technology to pinpoint the hiker’s location, and the helicopter, Rescue 948, managed to get them out between snow showers.
The team expressed their gratitude to HM Coastguard for the airlift and wished the hiker a speedy recovery. It’s worth noting that Kintail Mountain Rescue is made up entirely of volunteers who are always on call, ready to help anyone in trouble in the mountains.
