Recent data reveals that a significant number of drivers were involved in crashes in the Highlands and Islands region
Interestingly, about 70% of those drivers were men. The data, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, covers the period from September 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024.
Out of the 585 drivers, 422 were male, while 157 were female, and six were listed as unknown. The age group most involved in accidents was 18-24, with 66 drivers, 47 of whom were male.
On the flip side, the youngest group, under 18, had just six drivers, with five being male. It’s worth noting that the number of young male drivers was equal to that of older males aged 55-59.
For women, the highest numbers were also in the 18-24 age range, matching those in the 30-34 and 45-49 brackets, each with 18 drivers.
The oldest drivers, those over 80, totaled 15, with 11 being male. A spokesperson from Police Scotland mentioned that these stats are provisional and should be seen as management information.
They also reminded us that in any collision, there could be multiple drivers involved.
