The 16th-century Thornton Manor will transform into The Pig-on the Farm, a luxury hotel set to open in 2026.
Ettington: Exciting news! The historic Thornton Manor is getting a makeover. It’s set to become The Pig-on the Farm, a fancy boutique hotel, opening in 2026.
The Pig Hotel Group just got the green light from Stratford District Council. They’ll be turning the manor and its farm buildings into a cozy 35-bed hotel with a restaurant. Sounds lovely, right?
They’re also planning to add six guest room huts and three treatment huts on the grounds. Plus, they’ll grow fresh produce in polytunnels for the hotel kitchen. Talk about farm-to-table!
This hotel group was started by Robin Hutson, who also founded Hôtel du Vin. They love taking old mansions and turning them into stylish hotels that focus on local food. There are already nine Pig hotels, and this will be the 11th.
Originally, they wanted to open this site this year, but planning delays pushed it back. They had to get permission, which included an archaeological survey. Better safe than sorry!
Warwick-based Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd is on the case, checking out what’s on the site and how the development might affect any historical finds.
Thornton Manor is a Grade II* listed building, meaning it’s super important historically. Built in the mid-16th century, it’s had some updates over the years.
It became part of the Walton Estate back in 1833 when Sir John Mordaunt bought it. The Mordaunt family has a long history with the estate, dating back to 1611.
There are even remnants of a medieval village nearby, with records going back to 1279. Plus, there’s a Neolithic enclosure nearby, which is pretty cool!
