Plans for a holiday home near Kilspindie Golf Course are under fire due to safety and wildlife concerns raised by local residents and planners.
The landowners, Wemyss and March Estate, want to turn an old bird hide into a seasonal rental. It’s perched on a cliff, right by the golf greens. Sounds pretty scenic, right? But here’s the catch: guests would have to park in the golf club’s overflow lot and trek across the course to get to their digs. No new road or anything, just a walk or a golf buggy ride.
They even planned to put solar panels on the roof, but with netting to keep golf balls from smashing them. Plus, there’s a balcony for those gorgeous coastal views. But the locals aren’t having it.
A whopping 54 objections rolled in, mainly about wildlife and safety. One person was pretty vocal, asking why anyone would want to build a home right in the line of fire from golf balls. I mean, who wants to step out their front door and risk getting hit by a 100mph drive?
Planners are urging the council to reject the application. They’re worried about safety hazards, especially with guests having to cross an active golf course. They also pointed out that this area is a protected site, which adds another layer of concern.
The planners are really backing the objectors, saying that having a holiday let there would mean more foot traffic on the course, which could lead to more accidents. It’s a tricky situation, and it looks like the council meeting next week will be a big one for this proposal.
