A tragic incident occurred when a man fell 230ft from a mountain ridge, shocking fellow climbers in the Lake District
Keswick: A man tragically lost his life after falling 230 feet from a mountain ridge. It happened right in front of other climbers, who were understandably shocked.
The fall took place on Sharp Edge in the Lake District on Thursday afternoon. Emergency services were called immediately after the incident.
Volunteers from the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team worked hard to recover the man’s body. They transported him to the air ambulance, which then took him to their base.
The team expressed their gratitude to other hikers who rushed to help and extended their condolences to the man’s family. It was a heartbreaking start to their year.
In a social media post, they shared, “Our first call-out of the year had a tragic ending after a man died in a 70m fall from Sharp Edge.”
One of their team members, who was already on Blencathra, quickly made his way to the scene, along with the crew from Helimed 58, who landed nearby.
They managed to recover the body and airlift it to the Keswick MR Base. Such a sad event, and our thoughts are with everyone affected.
