PC Nicky Vernon is taking legal action against the Met after suffering serious injuries during a protest in London.
London: A police officer named PC Nicky Vernon is suing the Metropolitan Police after a serious incident during a protest. She was injured when her horse bolted, causing her to fall. This happened during a Black Lives Matter protest back in June 2020.
PC Vernon, who is 47, ended up with a punctured lung, a head injury, and several fractures. It was a chaotic scene with people throwing flares and fireworks, which understandably spooked her horse.
She spent eight days in the hospital and is still dealing with post-traumatic stress and anxiety. Now, she’s claiming that the horse she was riding, named Rocky, had a history of being unsafe.
In her lawsuit, she argues that the Met didn’t follow their own crowd control rules. She believes they put her in a dangerous situation by sending her into a packed and violent crowd.
The protest was massive, with over 130,000 people in attendance, sparked by the tragic death of George Floyd in the US. As of now, the Met hasn’t publicly responded to her claims.
