Authorities are searching for two lynx spotted near Kingussie after their illegal release, urging the public to stay away and report sightings.
Kingussie: So, here’s the scoop. Two lynx were spotted in the Drumguish area, and it’s causing quite a stir. The Highland Wildlife Park is on it, helping the police track them down.
Police got the heads up around 4:20 PM on January 8, 2025. They’re asking folks to keep their distance and not to approach the lynx. If you see them, just call 101.
Now, these lynx are pretty shy and not a big threat to people, but it’s still best to stay away. The Cairngorms National Park Authority is really concerned about their welfare after this illegal release.
They’re not happy about wild animals being let loose like this. It’s a big no-no, and they want anyone with info to reach out to the police.
Fun fact: Lynx used to roam Britain but went extinct ages ago, like 500 to 1,000 years back. Some groups are trying to bring them back, but this isn’t the way to do it.
There’s a project called Lynx to Scotland that’s all about reintroducing these cats to the Highlands. They’ve heard about the two lynx and are concerned about where they came from and their health.
Peter Cairns from Scotland: The Big Picture said they don’t support illegal releases. It’s just not cool, especially when there are talks about a proper reintroduction happening soon.
