North East residents share their driving test experiences, from failures to triumphs, highlighting the challenges and humor in learning to drive
Darlington: Readers of The Northern Echo jumped on Facebook to share their driving test stories, both the good and the bad.
Andrea Whitehouse opened up about her tough journey, saying, “I failed three times on minors.”
She recalled a moment of panic: “The first time, I abandoned the car on the roundabout in Cockerton. I just got out and said I don’t want to do this anymore.”
But she didn’t give up. After a fourth attempt, she finally passed, saying it made her a better driver because it was all about nerves.
On the flip side, Julian Rafferty had a different story: “No. Passed first time.”
Others joined in, like Lynn Nicholson-Smith, who vented her frustration: “Nerves…gave up after four attempts!”
Frank Webb shared a funny moment, saying he failed because the examiner was also being tested by the chief examiner.
David Wigley lightened things up with a tale about his friend’s quirky answer to a question about country road signs: “What signs do you expect to see on country roads? Eggs for sale, and pick your own fruit.”
Some folks celebrated their wins, like Fiona Riddle, who proudly noted, “I passed first time, December 23, 1980.”
The comments show a mix of pride and laughter, proving that learning to drive can be a tough but bonding experience for the community.
