After a fatal crash, local authorities are set to enhance safety measures at Danemore Crossroads to prevent future incidents
Welland: So, there’s been some talk about making things safer at Danemore Crossroads after a tragic accident. Almost 1,400 folks signed a petition pushing for better road safety measures.
This all comes after a woman lost her life and a man got seriously hurt in a crash involving a car and a school bus back in November. The bus was on its way to pick up kids from Hanley Castle High School when the accident happened.
The road was shut down for hours while they dealt with the aftermath. It’s a tough situation, and people are understandably worried.
Cllr Tom Wells started the petition after another crash happened on January 3, which involved three vehicles. Thankfully, no one needed an ambulance this time, but it’s clear something needs to change.
Wells, who’s an independent county councillor from Powick, is really pushing for a full road safety audit. He wants the police and highways department to take a good look at what’s been going on.
He mentioned to the Gazette that it’s crucial to investigate not just the recent accidents but also the ones that don’t get reported. Many locals have seen minor bumps and shunts that never make it into the official records.
Wells is urging the highways department to dig deeper into these issues. He’s not convinced that just adding a few signs will really fix the problem.
People living nearby are getting more anxious about the number of serious crashes at this spot, which they’re calling an ‘accident blackspot.’
A spokesperson from Worcestershire County Council said they’ve done a thorough investigation with the police and found some minor changes that will be made by April 2025.
They’ve already made some adjustments to improve visibility at the junction. The West Mercia Police Road Safety Team is also on it, working with local councils to boost safety in the area.
