Los Angeles: So, here’s the scoop. An ex-FBI informant named Alexander Smirnov just pleaded guilty. He admitted to lying about Joe Biden and his son Hunter taking bribes from a Ukrainian company.

Smirnov, who’s 44 and has dual US-Israeli citizenship, got into some serious trouble. He created a fake record during a federal investigation and also faces charges for not paying taxes on over $2 million he made from 2020 to 2022.

He could end up spending up to six years in prison, according to his plea deal. The judge set his sentencing for January 8, so he’s got a bit of a wait ahead.

What’s wild is that Smirnov claimed that Burisma, the Ukrainian energy firm, paid millions to Hunter and Joe Biden to dodge a criminal probe. But it turns out, those claims were just made up.

The plea deal even said that the stuff he told the FBI back in June 2020 was all fabricated. When he talked to agents again in September 2023, he changed his story and added new false claims.

Republicans in Congress were all over this, using Smirnov’s statements to push for Biden’s impeachment. But guess what? They couldn’t find any real evidence to back it up, and the whole thing fizzled out.

By the way, Hunter Biden had his own legal troubles earlier this year, getting convicted on gun and tax charges, but his dad pardoned him.

Smirnov’s lawyer was reached out to for comments, but we’re still waiting to hear back.
