The mother, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was arrested when the baby was discovered but was released the next day without any charges. She insists she has no idea how her baby ended up in the freezer.
During the investigation, the mother mentioned a man she called “Only,” who supposedly said he would take care of KP. But when the police looked into it, they couldn’t find any trace of this guy. They checked her phone records and asked her friends and family, but nothing came up. It’s like he never existed.
Detective Senior Constable Matthew Kelly, who’s in charge of the case, said there was no activity on the mother’s phone during the days leading up to the discovery of the baby. It’s all pretty baffling. They suspect KP died sometime between January 14 and 17, but the exact circumstances remain a mystery.
A forensic psychiatrist also weighed in, suggesting the mother might be dealing with some serious mental health issues. But they couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was going on. The inquest is still ongoing, and they’re looking into whether the child protection services did enough to assess the situation.
