An inquest has determined that the death of Adam Pieri at a Winchester hostel was drug-related, raising concerns about substance abuse.
Winchester: So, there was this inquest about a guy named Adam Pieri who was found dead at a hostel. It happened back on September 11, 2023, and the inquest took place on December 6.
The post-mortem showed he had high levels of methadone in his system. But the doctors couldn’t say for sure if he meant to take his life.
Adam had a tough life, dealing with substance abuse and even homelessness. He was found at Milford House, which is a hostel in Winchester.
Interestingly, the staff didn’t even realize he was dead at first. They only discovered his body after noticing a bad smell, which they thought was just plumbing issues.
One of the support officers, Sam Myall, said it smelled more like a wound. After checking around, she eventually found Adam.
When the police and staff looked into his room, they found a lot of drug paraphernalia. Unfortunately, because of how long it took to investigate, many details were hard to pin down due to decomposition.
A toxicology report revealed a mix of drugs and alcohol in his system. Some were prescribed for his health issues, but the methadone levels were concerning.
The coroner noted that the methadone levels were similar to those seen in other fatal cases. While they couldn’t confirm if Adam took his life, there was no evidence of anyone else being involved.
Coroner Simon Burge labeled the death as drug-related and thanked Adam’s brother, Paul, for sharing a heartfelt statement about Adam’s life and struggles.
