Inverness Recycling Centre is experiencing wait times of up to 40 minutes, frustrating local residents during the busy festive season
People have been reporting waits of over 40 minutes, which can be a real hassle. Local councillor Duncan Macpherson mentioned that he’s heard from constituents who’ve seen as many as 41 cars ahead of them at the Henderson Drive site.
While it’s great to see so many people recycling, Duncan suggested that maybe the council should consider extending the opening hours to better accommodate everyone after the holidays.
One resident, George Fletcher, shared his frustration too. He pointed out that the centre just isn’t big enough for a city like Inverness. He usually goes twice a month, but during Christmas, the waste piles up.
George recalled a visit between Christmas and New Year that took him about 40 minutes, which is a big chunk of time to lose. He’s puzzled why there’s only one recycling centre for such a large area, especially since things seem to have gotten worse since the new bin system was introduced.
Others in Inverness have echoed similar sentiments but have praised the staff for their hard work. However, many also faced issues with rubbish collection over the festive period, despite the council putting stickers on bins promising collection.
Donald MacLeod expressed his frustration, saying it would be nice if the council actually collected the rubbish as promised. Sara Ramsey added that there’s been no collection of paper, card, or food waste in her area for over a week.
Alistair Bowie suggested creating a space for people to leave items that could be reused, like packaging materials. He noticed that a lot of recyclable stuff was just going to landfill during his visit.
The team at the recycling centre is doing their best, but it seems like they could use some fresh ideas to improve the situation. Highland Council has been reached out to for comments on these issues.
