An inquiry is underway following Tommy Robinson’s podcast release from prison, raising questions about media access for inmates.
Luton: So, it turns out Tommy Robinson has stirred up quite the controversy. An investigation is now on the table after he managed to record and release a podcast from his prison cell. Can you believe it?
The podcast, which is about 13 minutes long, features Robinson chatting with his supporters. He even praises Elon Musk and Donald Trump, which has caught a lot of attention online. It seems he recorded this during a family call, and it’s been shared all over social media.
Robinson, who’s actually named Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is serving an 18-month sentence for contempt of court. He got into trouble for making false claims about a Syrian refugee. Now, here’s the kicker: prisoners aren’t supposed to be able to do interviews or record anything without their prison governor’s approval. And it looks like he didn’t get that.
The Prison Service is looking into how this all happened. They usually only allow media access in special cases, like if it’s a matter of public interest. But Robinson didn’t get that green light.
Interestingly, he’s been getting a lot of support from Elon Musk, who thinks Robinson is a political prisoner. Musk believes he’s been trying to expose some serious issues, rather than just spreading false information.
In the podcast, Robinson calls for support and talks about fighting for justice. He even mentions how Musk has helped protect free speech. He goes on to say that without Musk, things would be very different in the UK.
Robinson also brings up the January 6 Capitol protesters, asking for their release, claiming they’re political prisoners too. He’s really pushing the narrative that he’s being treated unfairly.
His recording was made over the phone, likely to a family member, and he starts off with a sweet “hello darling.” But it’s clear he’s got a lot on his mind after being locked up for three months.
Now, the Prison Service is taking this seriously. They’re looking to remove the podcast and remind everyone that prisoners can’t just have free access to the internet or social media. If they do, they could face some serious consequences.
