Israeli air strikes hit Kamal Adwan Hospital, raising concerns over healthcare access in Gaza amid ongoing violence
Beit Lahiya: Over the weekend, Israeli air strikes targeted the area around the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza. It’s been a tough time for everyone there.
Back in December, Israeli troops stormed the hospital, forcing staff and patients outside. Can you imagine being made to strip down in the cold? It’s just heartbreaking.
The hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, was taken by the Israeli Defense Forces. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported that fires were set in various parts of the hospital, including the lab and surgery area.
Israel claims they were targeting Hamas fighters and infrastructure nearby but denied entering the hospital or causing the fires. It’s a messy situation, to say the least.
On Saturday, two more public hospitals in northern Gaza were also put out of service due to Israeli attacks. The UN has warned that these strikes are pushing Gaza’s healthcare system to the edge.
Since October 7, the death toll has skyrocketed, with over 45,000 Palestinians reported killed and more than 100,000 injured. Just in the last day, at least 31 more lives were lost.
In central Gaza, two Palestinians were killed in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Reports also say that a house in the Shati refugee camp was targeted, resulting in four deaths.
It’s just devastating. A tent belonging to a displaced family was bombed near the Maghazi refugee camp, leaving more people wounded. The situation is dire, and it’s hard to see a way out.
