Filmmaker Jeff Baena, married to actress Aubrey Plaza, has tragically taken his own life, according to the medical examiner’s report.
Los Angeles: It’s really heartbreaking to hear about Jeff Baena. The talented filmmaker and husband of actress Aubrey Plaza has died by suicide at just 47 years old. The medical examiner confirmed that he passed away from hanging.
He was found at his home near the Fern Dell Nature Trail in the Hollywood Hills. It’s such a tragic loss, and his family will be receiving his body soon.
Jeff was known for his work on films like Life After Beth and The Little Hours, which he made with Aubrey. They had been together since around 2011 and tied the knot in 2021.
He also directed and wrote movies like Horse Girl and Spin Me Round, and he was behind the comedy I Heart Huckabees, which had a star-studded cast. He even created a fun anthology series called Cinema Toast.
Marc Maron, a fellow actor and comedian, shared his sadness on social media, calling Jeff a true artist and a sweet guy. The Sundance Film Festival, where Jeff debuted Life After Beth, also expressed their condolences, thanking him for his contributions to film.
Aubrey, who gained fame from Parks and Recreation, was set to present at the Golden Globes just days before this tragic news. She was nominated for her role in HBO’s White Lotus and has been in several other popular projects.
In a past interview, Aubrey shared how they decided to get married during the pandemic after celebrating their 10th anniversary. They quickly set up a little wedding ceremony in their garden, which sounds so sweet.
The Los Angeles Police Department is looking into the circumstances surrounding his death, and they’ve reached out to both Aubrey and Jeff’s representatives for comments.
