Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Farm Shop will close for two months due to ongoing challenges at The Farmer’s Dog Pub
Chadlington: So, Jeremy Clarkson just announced that his Diddly Squat Farm Shop is shutting down for January and February. The last day to grab your goodies will be December 29. After that, it’s a two-month break.
On the shop’s website, there’s a clear message saying the original farm shop will be closed, but the pop-up at The Farmer’s Dog Pub will still be open from Wednesday to Sunday. So, if you’re in the mood for a visit, you can still swing by the pub.
Now, Jeremy hasn’t really explained why the shop is closing for so long. This news comes right after his pub had to shut down the Grand Tour tent because of damage from Storm Darragh. Talk about bad luck!
Just a few days before this closure news, Jeremy shared some of the headaches he’s been facing with The Farmer’s Dog. He mentioned how tough it’s been to make a profit and even described some pretty gross stuff he found in the pub toilets. Yikes!
He had to call in a hazmat team to deal with a plumbing disaster. Apparently, it was such a mess that regular cleaning wouldn’t cut it. That’s a cost he didn’t see coming!
On top of that, he’s dealing with customers swiping glassware, which is just adding to his expenses. It’s like a comedy of errors over there!
In his column, he laid out the financial strain, mentioning costs like £100 a day for generator fuel and £27,000 a month for parking and traffic marshals. Ouch!
Even though lots of people are visiting, turning those visits into actual profit is proving to be a real struggle for him. He’s feeling the pinch and it’s frustrating.
But hey, not all is doom and gloom! He did get a nice visit from chef Marco Pierre White, who praised the pub’s menu. That’s got to feel good!
In the end, Jeremy summed it up with a mix of pride and a bit of resignation. He loves the pub vibe, but running it is definitely taking a toll on him. It’s a classic pub experience, but it sounds like it’s also a bit of a money pit!
