Jess Phillips reveals her fears for personal safety following online abuse from Elon Musk over child grooming inquiry decisions
London: Jess Phillips has opened up about her safety concerns after Elon Musk went on a social media rampage against her. This all started when she decided not to support a national inquiry into child grooming in the UK, claiming there had already been one.
Musk, the head of X, didn’t hold back. He called her names like “a witch” and “rape genocide apologist,” which stirred quite the controversy. Prime Minister Keir Starmer even stepped in to defend her.
Phillips shared that she’s still trying to process everything. She said, “Of course I worry about my safety. Anyone working in violence against women has to consider these risks.”
She found Musk’s claims about her being part of a cover-up to protect Labour politicians to be absurd. “At first, I thought, what? But then I realized millions have seen this, and it’s going to change my life,” she explained.
Interestingly, Musk tried to justify his comments by referencing his British grandmother, which didn’t sit well with her. To make matters worse, someone in the southwest of England has already been charged for threatening her.
As a long-time advocate for women’s rights, Phillips expressed frustration. “It’s annoying because it takes up so much of my time from someone who knows nothing about this issue,” she said. She wants to focus on helping the many girls who have been victims of grooming gangs.
She also questioned why the Conservative Party supports Musk, especially since they’ve done little for the victims of grooming gangs during their time in power. “I wonder how much they’ve really looked into the inquiries that have happened,” she remarked.
Despite her struggles, Phillips emphasized that her situation pales in comparison to what the victims have endured. “A few days of madness is nothing compared to the decades of trauma these girls have faced,” she concluded, determined to keep pushing forward.
