Rudy Giuliani’s request to skip a hearing due to health issues was denied by a judge ahead of a contempt hearing related to defamation claims.
New York City: So, Rudy Giuliani tried to get out of showing up for a hearing by claiming he had some health issues. He said his lung problems were from being at Ground Zero on 9/11. But the judge wasn’t having it and turned him down.
This whole mess started because Giuliani defamed two election workers, which led to a whopping $150 million in damages. He even declared bankruptcy over it. Now, those workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, are trying to collect what they can from him, including his fancy car and luxury stuff.
Giuliani is supposed to be in court for a contempt hearing soon. The judge will decide if he should face serious penalties for not following court orders. His lawyer wanted him to join the hearing via Zoom, citing knee and breathing issues, but the judge wasn’t convinced.
Remember, before all this drama, Giuliani was known for his leadership after 9/11. He was even called “America’s mayor.” But now, he’s in hot water over this defamation case.
The judge pointed out that Giuliani didn’t provide any medical proof and had shown up in person for previous hearings. He can’t just pick and choose when to appear. If he wants to stick to his claims, he has to show up in court.
It’s still unclear how he’ll handle the hearing. The Independent has reached out to his team for more info. The judge is set to make a decision on whether to hold him in contempt during the hearing.
