The court has increased the sentences of two 12-year-old murderers, bringing justice for the family of slain teen Shawn Seesahai
Wolverhampton: The family of Shawn Seesahai is feeling a sense of justice after a court decided to increase the sentences of his two young killers. These boys, just 12 years old at the time of the crime, were previously given eight-and-a-half years, but now they’ll serve at least ten years.
Shawn, only 19, was tragically killed in a brutal attack last November. The court found that the original sentences were too lenient, especially given the seriousness of the crime. The Solicitor General argued that the case was particularly severe, and the judges agreed.
After the ruling, Shawn’s family expressed relief, saying, “Justice has been served today for the murder of our beloved son.” They’ve been through so much pain, and while no sentence can bring Shawn back, they feel this decision acknowledges their loss.
Shawn was attacked with a machete, suffering horrific injuries. His family described the violence as senseless and devastating. They’re haunted by the thought of what he went through during the attack.
During the trial, both boys pointed fingers at each other, but they were found guilty of murder. They are now among the youngest murderers in the UK, a sad distinction that echoes a past case from 1993.
The judge had previously decided to keep their identities secret, prioritizing their welfare over public interest. But the gravity of Shawn’s murder was clear, and the court recognized that the original sentences didn’t reflect the seriousness of their actions.
After the hearing, a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office emphasized the tragedy of Shawn’s death, highlighting the ongoing issue of knife crime. They welcomed the court’s decision to increase the sentences, hoping it sends a strong message about the consequences of such violence.
