A kebab van in South Gloucestershire gets the green light despite local worries about road safety and potential disturbances
South Gloucestershire: So, there’s this kebab van that just got the go-ahead to set up near a busy junction in Bradley Stoke. It’s run by a guy named Mehmet Isitmen, and he’s been in the game since 2007. But not everyone is thrilled about it.
Neighbors are pretty worried about safety, especially since the road is narrow and visibility isn’t great. Six residents raised their voices against the plan, but the council didn’t hear any objections from local authorities.
Mehmet wanted to serve up kebabs from 5 PM to 11 PM, but the council said, “Hold on, let’s make it 6 PM instead.” Folks living nearby are concerned about the potential for litter, noise, and bright lights shining into their homes.
One resident even mentioned that there have been a few accidents at that junction, which is right by a business park. Another neighbor wrote in saying they didn’t need more food vendors cluttering up the area.
Some residents feel the road just isn’t cut out for a food van. They worry about the noise at night, especially since their bedrooms face that way. It’s a tight squeeze during the day with parked cars, and they think it’ll just make things worse.
But Mehmet defended his spot, saying he’s never had a complaint in all those years. He promised the lights on his van would face away from homes and that he wouldn’t be using a generator.
He’s hoping this new location will help ease the crowd at his other spot on Ash Ridge Road, which will still be open. Plus, he thinks most of his customers will just walk over instead of driving.
