London: So, Sir Keir Starmer is gearing up to defend his record on grooming gangs. This comes after Elon Musk took to social media to call for Starmer to be imprisoned. Quite the drama, right?

Musk tweeted that former Labour PM Gordon Brown committed an “unforgivable crime” by not stopping child sex trafficking during his time in office. That’s a heavy accusation!

Starmer is set to talk about government plans to cut NHS waiting lists, but he’ll also face questions about his time as head of the Crown Prosecution Service. He’s expected to highlight his efforts in prosecuting rapists.

Musk has been pretty vocal lately, using X (formerly Twitter) to push for a new UK general election and criticize the Prime Minister for not bringing “rape gangs” to justice when he was the director of public prosecutions.

Now, Musk is about to step into a significant role in Trump’s administration, and there’s some concern that this spat could affect the UK-US relationship.

Health minister Karin Smyth disagreed with Musk’s comments but reassured everyone that the diplomatic ties between the two nations would stay strong.

She emphasized that the US is a crucial ally, and they’ve been working together for years. It’s all about keeping those international interests aligned.

Musk didn’t stop there; he also took shots at other Labour MPs. He claimed safeguarding minister Jess Phillips should be in prison for not leading a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham.

Ministers have pushed back, calling Musk’s remarks “misjudged and certainly misinformed.” But this press conference will be Starmer’s first chance to respond directly to Musk’s comments.

During his time as DPP from 2008 to 2013, Starmer set up a network of specialized prosecutors to tackle child abuse and changed the guidelines to focus on the credibility of allegations. That’s a big deal!

Smyth defended her colleagues, saying Musk was “wrong” about both the PM and Phillips. She praised Jess as an excellent colleague who has always supported victims of these crimes.
