A family in Kennington faces heartbreak after their home was destroyed by a fire just before Christmas
They barely escaped with just their pajamas on, losing two beloved cats in the process. Laura described it as “heart-breaking” to see their “safe place” vanish in flames.
Toby recalled the panic, saying all he could think was to get everyone out. They got stuck in the porch due to smoke but managed to find a way out through a window.
The fire service arrived quickly, but it felt like an eternity as they watched their home burn. They didn’t know what to grab; all that mattered was getting out safely.
Fortunately, one of their kittens made it out with them. The community rallied around the family, offering clothes and support.
Laura shared that the bungalow was built by her grandmother, and losing it felt like losing a part of her life. Now, they’re staying with her grandparents to keep things as normal as possible for their two autistic sons.
Despite the tragedy, the warmth from the community has been a silver lining during this tough time.
