Recent figures show a dramatic rise in knife possession under Mayor Khan’s leadership, raising concerns about safety in London
London: So, it turns out that Mayor Sadiq Khan has been in charge while knife possession in the city has skyrocketed. The latest stats show a record jump, especially in 2018.
Since Khan took office in 2016, knifepoint robberies have more than doubled, hitting nearly 10,000 incidents a year. That’s a huge increase!
And it’s not just robberies. Threats to kill with a knife have nearly tripled, and fatal stabbings have gone up by 38%. It’s a serious issue, with over 100 deaths a year.
Even the number of knifepoint rapes and sexual assaults has jumped by two-thirds. It’s alarming to see these numbers rise so sharply.
Last week, the stepmother of Jodie Chesney, a girl scout who was tragically killed, slammed Khan’s knighthood as a “total joke.” Jodie was just 17 when she was stabbed by two guys who mistook her for someone else.
Khan’s team claims that injuries from knife attacks have actually gone down since he took over from Boris Johnson. But the stats tell a different story, showing knife crime is worse in almost every other way.
Jodie’s stepmom, Joanne, expressed her frustration, saying it’s ridiculous for Khan to claim knife crime is decreasing. Every day, there’s news of another stabbing.
She believes the police aren’t getting the support they need to tackle this issue effectively. It feels like London is spiraling out of control, while Khan seems to be ignoring the problem.
In response, Khan’s spokesman insisted that keeping Londoners safe is a top priority. They pointed out that fewer young people were injured with knives last year compared to previous years.
