South London: A 27-year-old laborer named Dajour Jones has been sentenced to at least 27 years for the horrific murder of 20-year-old Jamie Gilbey. This guy really went off the rails, attacking Jamie in a brutal way and then dismembering his body. It’s just chilling.

Jones didn’t even bother to show up for his sentencing at the Old Bailey. The judge, Nigel Lickley, called him a “violent and dangerous individual.” He made it clear that Jamie was just starting his life, and Jones took that away from him.

Jamie was last seen heading into Jones’s room at their hostel on January 27, 2022. Prosecutors described the attack as “sustained and particularly disturbing.” It’s hard to wrap your head around how someone could do that to another person.

Jamie’s mom, Charlene Baxter, spoke in court about how her family has been affected. She mentioned how her other sons are scared and often ask if the “bad man” is coming. It’s heartbreaking to think about the fear this has caused.

After a nine-week trial, the jury found Jones guilty. He claimed he acted in self-defense, saying Jamie confronted him with a knife. But the evidence painted a different picture, showing that Jamie was defenseless.

Jones didn’t just kill Jamie; he went on to dismember him and hide the body parts in a park. He even bought a suitcase to transport the remains. It’s just so disturbing to think about how he went about it so casually.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan, who led the investigation, expressed his condolences to Jamie’s family. He pointed out that Jones had planned the attack, asking staff earlier that day about what would happen if he got into a fight. It’s chilling to think he was plotting this.

Jones has a history of violence and was out on license before this murder. He’ll serve a minimum of 24 years and 353 days, which is just a small comfort for a family that lost so much.
