New Orleans: Edward Pettifer was identified by the Metropolitan Police as the British national killed in a tragic incident on January 1.

King Charles is really saddened by the news of Edward’s death in the vehicle attack that happened in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. Sources from the palace shared that he has reached out to Edward’s family to offer his condolences.

Edward, who was just 31, was one of 14 victims in this horrific attack. He was the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer, who used to care for Prince William and Prince Harry when they were kids.

His family described him as a “wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to so many.” The attack occurred when a 42-year-old US Army veteran drove a pick-up truck into crowds on Bourbon Street before being shot by police.

The coroner reported that Edward died from “blunt force injuries.” Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince William is aware of the situation, while Prince Harry has also been informed but won’t be making any public comments.

The suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, is believed to have acted alone in what the FBI called a “premeditated and evil act.” They found a flag of the Islamic State group in the vehicle, along with two improvised explosive devices nearby.

Among the victims were a well-known college football player, a young aspiring nurse, and a mother of a four-year-old. The attack injured at least 39 others, with some still in the ICU.

Edward, who lived in Chelsea, London, was named as a victim on Saturday. His family expressed their devastation over his tragic death and requested privacy to grieve.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office is providing support to Edward’s family during this difficult time. Alexandra Pettifer, who joined King Charles’s staff in 1993, became a close companion to the young princes after their parents’ separation and helped them cope with the loss of their mother, Princess Diana.

She married security consultant Charles Pettifer in 1999, with William and Harry attending the private ceremony in Wales.
