King’s Lynn: The West Norfolk community has really stepped up this winter. Charities are singing praises for the amazing support they’ve received through the Your Local Paper Winter Appeal.

As we near the end of the appeal, charities are sharing how much your donations have meant to them. January is the final month, and it’s all about helping the homeless and vulnerable folks in our area.

Helen Gilbert, who manages the food bank, has been overwhelmed by the kindness shown by everyone. She calls the community “utter marvels” for their generosity.

So far, the appeal has raised just shy of £5,000. The King’s Lynn Night Shelter has received the biggest chunk, about £2,113, while The Purfleet Trust got £1,748 and the food bank received £1,087.

In a heartfelt message, a spokesperson from The Purfleet Trust thanked everyone involved, saying the donations have made a real difference this winter. They’ve been able to provide meals and gifts for those experiencing homelessness, creating some joyful moments during the holidays.

Helen also expressed her gratitude, noting that in December alone, they distributed 586 food parcels, with a significant portion going to children. Your support has helped them provide essential food and even some festive extras.

Lucy McKitterick, director of the night shelter, shared her appreciation too. She mentioned how the donations have helped cover costs and keep the shelter running for those in need.

They’re even planning a big winter fundraiser on January 25, featuring a special evening with the creators of “Call the Midwife.” It’s a great chance to support the shelter while enjoying some behind-the-scenes stories.

There’s still time to contribute to the appeal if you can. Every little bit helps these charities maintain their vital services, especially during tough times.

If you want to donate, you can drop off cash or cheques at the YLP office in King’s Lynn. Just make sure to note which charity you’re supporting on the envelope.

Every donation counts, whether it’s for food, heating, or other essential services. Let’s keep the spirit of giving alive in our community!
