King’s Lynn: Barbara Howell, a remarkable foster carer, has been honored with an MBE for her incredible dedication. Over 43 years, she has cared for more than 160 children, which is just amazing.
Known as Barbie, she finds fostering to be the most rewarding experience. She and her husband, David, currently look after two girls and keep in touch with many of the kids they’ve fostered.
Receiving the MBE from King Charles III was a proud moment for her. She expressed gratitude to the fostering team in King’s Lynn for their support throughout her journey.
Barbara shared that her upbringing shaped her passion for fostering. After losing her mother at a young age, she was inspired by a friend to become a carer. This experience helps her connect with the children she fosters.
Many of the kids she has cared for still reach out to her, sharing their milestones and seeking support. It’s heartwarming to see how these relationships have lasted over the years.
Currently, Barbara and David are proud of the achievements of the two girls they care for. Their family, including their own children and grandchildren, has been incredibly supportive throughout this journey.
Barbara encourages anyone with a love for children to consider fostering, as it can be a truly fulfilling experience. She emphasizes that Norfolk County Council is in need of new foster carers, and it’s a decision you won’t regret.
