The Kurdish House in Leeds is gearing up for a massive litter-picking campaign in 2025, inviting community support to tackle waste.
Leeds: The Kurdish House community association is stepping up for a big challenge in 2025, and they want everyone to join in!
Led by local volunteer Rebwar Sharazure, this group has been picking up litter in Leeds for years, collecting thousands of bags of rubbish. Now, they’re aiming even higher.
They plan to collect 5,000 bags of litter across West Yorkshire from January to June 2025. They’re looking for people to help out, whether by joining the litter picks or sponsoring their efforts. All funds raised will go towards their new community center at the old Golden Lion pub on Beeston Road, where they’ll offer activities like sports, education, and support for those in need.
The campaign kicks off on Sunday, January 5, 2025, with a big litter pick in Beeston. Everyone is welcome to meet at 1 PM at their center, or drop by anytime until 4 PM. They’ll focus on nearby housing estates, and all equipment, snacks, and drinks will be provided. After that, they’ll be out and about in West Yorkshire, working with others to clean up the area.
Rebwar shared, “We’re proud to help keep our communities clean. We’ve picked up thousands of bags over the years, but now we really need support to keep this going. Thanks in advance for any help!”
Cllr Ed Carlisle is backing the campaign, saying, “Litter drags our communities down. Thanks to the Kurdish House team for their amazing work. This isn’t just about picking up trash; it’s about inspiring people not to litter in the first place. Together, we can make a difference.”
