Concerns grow as Lacey Lake’s friend highlights inconsistencies in the search

Lacey, who was just 24, was reported missing on January 6. Her friend got worried when Lacey didn’t check in, which was totally out of character for her. The police labeled her case as ‘medium risk,’ so they didn’t make a public appeal for help.
On January 7, the police confirmed they found a woman’s body in Linton Close. They said it was unexplained but not suspicious. Lacey’s family was informed, but formal identification hadn’t happened yet.
Her friend, who wants to stay anonymous, shared that Lacey had been in her life for six years. Originally from Doncaster, Lacey moved to Plymouth when she turned 18. They met at work and became close friends.
Lacey sometimes stayed at her friend’s place or in a nearby caravan she had made cozy. The last time her friend saw her was on Friday, and she expected her back on Saturday. But then things got weird with messages that didn’t sound like Lacey at all.
After realizing Lacey was missing, her friend contacted the police. She had received a strange text from Lacey that didn’t make sense. It was so unlike her, and that really raised alarm bells.
On Monday night, she checked the caravan and even took care of Lacey’s kitten. When she called the police, they told her to check the hospital. After confirming Lacey wasn’t there, she reported her missing again.
When a police officer finally searched the caravan, Lacey was nowhere to be found. The friend described the scene as odd, saying it looked ransacked, even though Lacey had put a lot of effort into making it homey.
Things took a turn when she spoke to a man at a property where Lacey had been. He had a bloodied face and claimed he put Lacey in a taxi. That just added to the confusion.
When the police returned, they had a whole team there, including detectives and even a drone. It’s hard to believe Lacey could have come back unnoticed after the police had already searched the place.
Her friend is convinced something isn’t right. She knows Lacey better than anyone, and this whole situation feels off. The police have said they’re treating the death as non-suspicious, but the friend isn’t buying it.
Devon and Cornwall Police have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because of their previous contact with Lacey. They’re waiting to see if an investigation is needed.
