A Liverpool fan suffered a serious head injury after being attacked by a rival supporter outside Anfield, prompting a police investigation.
Liverpool: A dad from Lancashire is feeling pretty lucky to be alive after a nasty incident outside a football match. Michael Muldoon, 54, a die-hard Liverpool fan, was attacked by a rival supporter right after the game against Manchester City at Anfield.
It all went down when Michael was punched in the face by a Man City fan, causing him to fall and hit his head on the curb. He was out cold for nearly five minutes and ended up needing stitches for a serious head injury.
After being rushed to the hospital, doctors told him he was lucky to be alive. A CT scan showed no bleeding on the brain, but he had to go back to the hospital multiple times for treatment. Eventually, they decided to stitch him up properly since his condition wasn’t improving.
Merseyside Police have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of assault, but they’re still looking into the whole situation. Michael’s daughter, Charlotte, is asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
She explained that her dad was just walking to meet his brother and friends when the attacker, who had just gotten off an away coach, yanked his scarf and punched him. It was a shocking moment for the family, especially since Michael is such a dedicated Liverpool supporter.
Charlotte shared how worried they were when they heard about the attack. She and her mum rushed to the hospital, and it felt like the longest drive ever. They were terrified of what could have happened, especially since you hear about similar incidents on the news.
Michael has been in and out of the hospital for weeks now, missing work and his beloved football games. Charlotte mentioned that he’s self-employed, so this has really hit them hard financially and emotionally.
Despite everything, Michael is staying strong. Charlotte said the whole experience has affected them more than it has him. They were just grateful to spend Christmas together, considering how close they came to losing him.
Police are still gathering information and are asking anyone with footage from the area to reach out. They want to make sure justice is served for Michael and to prevent something like this from happening again.
