Laurence Rockey takes the helm, replacing Monica Patterson after 15 years. He brings experience from the Scotland Office; East Lothian welcomes him.
Norman Hampshire, a council leader, congratulated Laurence on his new job, believing this is great for the council. Many qualified people wanted the role, and members were impressed by their commitment.
Laurence showed deep experience and possesses the needed qualities to build on their successes. He will also continue Monica’s work, collaborating with a strong team to help the council face challenges. They look forward to working with him.
Laurence is happy to be chosen and wants to provide good services for East Lothian residents. He said it is an exciting time with big chances for growth, and he wants to help make these happen.
Before his job at the Scotland Office, Rockey worked at City of Edinburgh Council, starting in November 2020, managing strategy and communications. He also handled council changes and results there.
He held senior civil service roles before, key in creating city deals and working with devolution strategy. Rockey led the Cities Policy Unit from 2013 to 2015, and the devolution strategy from 2015 to 2016. His start date is coming soon and will be announced later, along with when he starts after Patterson retires.
