Dhaka: So, there’s this lawyer, Mir Ahmad bin Quasem, who claims that police raided his home after Treasury Minister Tulip Siddiq was asked about him on TV. Can you believe that?

He was actually in prison at the time, and his wife got a visit from the Rapid Action Battalion. They told her to keep quiet, which sounds pretty intense, right?

This all went down back in 2017, right after Siddiq was challenged on Channel 4 News to help him out. Quasem said it seemed like her being confronted really hit a nerve with the ruling party.

Quasem was taken in 2016 while he was working for his dad, who’s in the opposition. He finally got released in August after Sheikh Hasina lost her grip on power.

Now, Siddiq has even referred herself to ethics watchdogs because of her supposed ties to the previous regime. It’s all a bit messy, especially since her aunt, Hasina, resigned last year after a lot of backlash for cracking down on dissent.

It’s wild how these political games play out, isn’t it?
