The family of Leicester City’s late owner seeks £2.15 billion from helicopter maker Leonardo SpA after a tragic crash in 2018
Leicester: The family of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the owner of Leicester City football club, is taking legal action against the helicopter company Leonardo SpA. This follows the tragic crash that took his life in 2018.
The claim is a whopping £2.15 billion, making it the largest fatal accident claim in English history. They’re seeking compensation for lost earnings and other damages.
Vichai bought Leicester City in 2010, and under his ownership, the club achieved a remarkable Premier League victory in 2016. Sadly, he died in a helicopter crash just outside the King Power Stadium after a match.
Along with him, the pilot and three others lost their lives that day. The helicopter caught fire shortly after takeoff due to a fuel leak, and despite some surviving the initial impact, no one made it out alive.
A recent report from Britain’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch revealed that the pilot couldn’t recover from a tail rotor failure, which led to the helicopter spinning uncontrollably.
Witnesses reported a shout from the cabin just before the crash, and the experienced pilot tried to manage the situation but couldn’t prevent the disaster.
Leonardo has stated that their AW169 helicopters are still safe to fly and that they met all regulatory standards during design and manufacturing.
