A new planning application aims to transform the former Boots into a coffee shop and flat, adding vibrancy to Leigh Broadway.
Leigh: A planning application has been submitted to Southend Council this week to turn the old Boots store into a coffee shop and a flat above. If it gets the green light, it’ll join popular spots like Stop the World and The Brunch.
The Boots store has been sitting empty since last March, and folks in the area are eager to see something new. Leigh Lib Dem councillor Carole Mulroney is on board with the idea but wonders if we really need another coffee shop since there are already quite a few around.
She mentioned that while Boots was a big part of the community, its storefront wasn’t exactly eye-catching. Still, she’d prefer a coffee shop over an empty building any day. The new plan includes a coffee shop on the ground floor and a flat above, which could help with local housing needs.
The application was submitted by Elegant Architectural for someone named Mr. N Trim. The proposal aims to enhance the Broadway’s character and keep the building from falling into disrepair. They believe this change will add to the area’s charm and heritage.
