Murrieta: Lenny Randle, a well-known figure in baseball, has passed away at 75. He played for 12 seasons and was famous for his unique personality and memorable moments.

Randle died at home, and while his family hasn’t shared the cause, his son Bradley confirmed the news. Randle was a standout player, helping Arizona State win the College World Series in 1969.

He was drafted by Washington in 1970 and made his MLB debut in 1971. Over his career, he played for several teams, including the Rangers and Mets, and had a solid record with 27 home runs and over 300 RBIs.

But it wasn’t just his stats that made him famous. Randle was known for his wild antics, like the time he sparked a brawl by colliding with a pitcher or when he was part of the infamous Ten Cent Beer Night riot.

He even had a moment during a blackout at Shea Stadium that fans still talk about. Randle was a colorful character, earning the title “The Most Interesting Man in Baseball” from Rolling Stone.

His career had its ups and downs, including a notorious incident where he punched his manager, leading to a suspension and a fine. Randle later apologized and moved on to play for the Mets and other teams.

After his MLB days, he became the first American to play in Italy’s baseball league, where he found joy in the game again. He also dabbled in stand-up comedy and music.

Randle is survived by his wife, Linda, and their three sons. A celebration of his life is in the works, honoring a man who brought so much to the game.
