The Limekilns Heritage Trust is gearing up to restore the historic pier near Rosyth
Rosyth: The Limekilns Heritage Trust has been on a mission for the last decade to save the historic pier. They want to bring it back to its former glory while making it stronger for the future.
Russell Kelly, the chair of the trust, emphasizes the importance of preserving local history. He believes it’s crucial to prevent the pier from falling into disrepair and wants the community to be involved in the restoration.
They’ve already made some progress by fixing the pole at the pier’s end. The full restoration is expected to kick off later this year, focusing on areas that have been damaged by storms.
To ensure everything is done right, they’ve hired conservation engineers who know the ropes when it comes to listed buildings. They’re working on a design that respects the pier’s historical significance.
Funding for the project comes from community events, like the Limekilns Breakfast Dip, which saw nearly 100 brave souls take a chilly plunge into the Forth. All the money raised goes directly to the pier restoration.
As part of the project, they’re also creating a stone path along the pier. Donors can have their names engraved on the stones, and so far, 250 slabs have been laid down, with more on the way.
Russell shared that they’ve raised around £50,000 from these donations, which is pretty impressive. The trust is eager to see even more names added to the path.
