A shoplifter was arrested by the North Wales Police Chief Constable in Llandudno
Llandudno: So, there was this shoplifter who got caught by the chief constable while she was off-duty. Michael Smith, 39, from Dinas Dinlle, faced the music in court for stealing.
It all went down when Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman was leaving M&S in Llandudno. She saw security holding a guy who had just swiped nearly £270 worth of clothes. Can you believe that?
She didn’t waste any time and arrested Smith right there. He was taken into custody and later charged. He admitted to the theft and ended up with a £200 fine.
Blakeman, who leads on retail crime for the National Police Chiefs’ Council, said retail theft really hurts businesses and communities. It affects everyone, from staff to customers, which is why they’re serious about tackling it.
She mentioned that they’ve made great progress in fighting retail crime over the past year. They’re working closely with retailers and focusing on areas where thefts happen a lot.
They’re also taking steps to help those who might be stealing due to drug or alcohol issues. It’s all about making the community safer and reducing repeat offenses.
