Tyrin Truong, the young mayor of Bogalusa, faces serious charges linked to a drug trafficking probe involving multiple defendants
Bogalusa: So, you won’t believe what just happened. The mayor of Bogalusa, Tyrin Truong, got arrested! This guy was only 23 when he took office, making him one of the youngest mayors in the U.S.
He’s facing some pretty serious charges, like dealing with drug money and even soliciting sex work. Can you imagine? He’s one of seven people caught up in this whole drug trafficking investigation.
According to the police, they were using social media to sell drugs and manage payments. It’s wild how they expanded their operation like that. And get this, some of the money from those sales was used to buy guns, which ended up in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them.
Truong, now 25, is looking at charges that include transactions involving drug proceeds and unauthorized use of property. Six others from Bogalusa are also in trouble for similar reasons.
Truong made headlines when he beat the incumbent mayor in what many thought was an upset. He graduated from Washington University and was all about reducing crime and corruption in the city.
But things got rocky for him earlier this year when he found out that Bogalusa wasn’t following state audit laws. This meant the city couldn’t get any state or federal funds for important services.
He claimed his predecessor didn’t help with the transition, which is a bit of a mess. Just days before his arrest, he gave a speech about his plans for the city, saying he was still learning and asking for grace from the community.
It’s a tough situation, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out for him and the city.
