A new lung cancer screening bus is now available at Chineham Shopping Centre, inviting eligible residents to get checked for lung health.
Chineham: The screening bus has parked at the Chineham Shopping Centre and is ready to help eligible patients starting January 22. It’s a great opportunity for those who’ve been invited.
This program is aimed at folks aged 55 to 74 who smoke or have smoked. They’re at a higher risk for lung cancer, so it’s super important to get checked.
Rachel Hardstaff, who’s in charge of the program, shared that catching lung cancer early can really improve outcomes. Symptoms often show up late, so early detection is key.
Lung cancer is the third most common cancer, and they want to make sure awareness is as high as it is for breast health checks. It’s all about getting the word out!
Eligible patients will get an invite from their GP for a check-up. They’ll chat with a health professional about their breathing, lifestyle, and medical history.
If someone is at high risk, they’ll be invited for a CT scan at the mobile unit or a hospital. Those at lower risk will just get some advice.
The scanner is low radiation, similar to what you’d get on a flight to Spain, and the whole chest scan takes just a few minutes. Pretty quick, right?
This mobile unit can screen about 60 patients a day, operating from 8 am to 8 pm, Tuesday to Saturday. After the scan, patients will hear back within four weeks about their results.
Rachel encourages everyone to come and get checked. It’s quick, easy, and could save lives. Plus, make sure your GP knows your smoking status to ensure you don’t miss out!
