The M20 Junction 1 will close for safety upgrades from January 17 to 20, affecting traffic flow in the area
Kent: The M20 Junction 1 closure has been rescheduled after being previously canceled due to storm warnings. It’s set to close in both directions from 10 PM on Friday, January 17, until 5:30 AM on Monday, January 20. This is all for some important safety upgrades.
They’re planning to upgrade over 350 meters of the central reservation safety barrier. This should make things safer for everyone on the road and cut down on future maintenance work.
Amelia Yeodal, the program development manager at National Highways, mentioned that this work will really help improve safety for drivers using that part of the M20. They chose the weekend for the closure since traffic is usually lighter then.
She also thanked everyone for their patience and reminded drivers to allow extra time for their journeys if they’re traveling through that area over the weekend.
While the junction is closed, traffic will be redirected using the exit and entry slip roads. They’ll also adjust signals at the Swanley Interchange to keep things moving smoothly.
