Birmingham drivers are facing significant delays due to a crash on the M5 affecting the M6 route this morning
Birmingham: This morning, the M5 northbound got partially blocked because of a crash. It’s causing a bit of a mess for drivers on the M6 too. The accident happened between junction J1 and the M6, just after 10:30 AM.
Initially, all traffic was held for about 15 minutes, but they cleared it up pretty quickly. By 11:15 AM, the scene was cleared, but there’s still some congestion lingering around, especially on the M5 link road to the M6.
National Highways mentioned that drivers could expect delays of around 20 minutes, but things should get back to normal soon after 11 AM. Traffic cameras showed some long queues at the site.
West Midlands Roads also chimed in on X, warning drivers about the “major disruption.” They noted lane closures and that the M5 north link to the M6 south was affected, leading to delays of over 30 minutes.
Even though the incident was cleared by 11:15 AM, some residual traffic is still hanging around. So, if you’re out and about, just keep that in mind!
